December 28, 2013

At the end of 2013, Dr. Dave says the year's most important technology stories are not specifications but the ways technology changes ordinary life. His strongest reflection begins with disagreement: because he respects Dennis Prager, Dr. Dave's first reaction is not dismissal but “What am I missing?” He argues that bright, educated and well-intentioned people can still be completely wrong, then says he remains open to discovering his own blind spot. A historical Moto X discussion turns into a second durable principle: thoughtful technology should give people a meaningful alternative, ask what they are really trying to accomplish and help them be productive rather than chase glitz or imitate every other phone. The complete show also preserves Windows 8.1, the Target breach, privacy and surveillance, cloud services, constitutional limits, major 2013 products and the coming end of Windows XP support.
