April 6, 2013
The April 6, 2013 show opens with the sort of honest production problem that made the program feel live: Dr. Dave and Evil Steve discover the Internet stream is missing, joke that they tested everything except what mattered and keep recording because the archive and refeed will still carry the show. A client server upgrade gives Dr. Dave one of his clearest consulting lessons: a backup can work perfectly and still fail the business if nobody has identified and documented where the current, important data actually lives. He also describes closing email and checking it in batches so unimportant messages do not replace focused work, and argues that being connected by choice is fundamentally different from being forced to stay online. The closing minutes preserve a short birthday greeting to Dr. Dave's son Nick and Dr. Dave's notably balanced early view that Bitcoin carries both enormous potential and the risk of becoming a tremendous boondoggle.
