A failing battery and slow studio switch give Dr. Dave and Evil Steve an immediate demonstration of the perspective they value: everyone has troubles, but the difference is how a person responds to them. Dr. Dave’s consulting instincts appear in a business brought nearly to a halt by a storage device that was operating exactly as designed but was simply too slow for the promised job; the real solution began with identifying the bottleneck rather than endlessly adjusting the wrong system. The show also captures Dr. Dave as a lifelong Washington fan remembering linebacker Chris Hanburger, one of his childhood favorites, and weighing an earlier team-centered game against the 2011 NFL labor fight. Around those subjects are the brothers’ easy family humor—Michele being “late” with Christmas shopping in July and relatives calling the live show about milk and cookies—along with a comic experiment in having an old Bible translation read aloud in a voice they associate with Stephen Hawking.
