March 19, 2011
A newly improved telephone system fails as soon as the show goes live, giving Dr. Dave and Evil Steve a funny, honest demonstration of the problems that often accompany a change. Dr. Dave’s practical consulting approach appears throughout: look beyond optimistic headline specifications, spend a client’s time getting the computer working unless costly forensics are truly needed and make changes when they serve a purpose rather than for their own sake. The show also preserves major 2011 technology history through the takedown of the Rustock spam botnet, the RSA SecurID breach, emergency communication through Facebook and the shift from theaters and discs toward online viewing. Near the close, an angry NFL labor discussion turns unexpectedly warm as the brothers describe peewee football as the game’s purest and most entertaining form.
