January 15, 2011
After the Tucson shooting, Dr. Dave and Evil Steve offer their condolences and argue that public discussion should wait for facts rather than turn tragedy into another blame contest. A meeting with AVG leads Dr. Dave to a lasting security principle: software matters, but people’s decisions and the personal information they reveal matter just as much. He extends that concern to families creating online identities for children and to secret-account answers that can be reconstructed from social media. The program also captures two important technology-history moments from early 2011, the iPhone finally reaching Verizon and Stuxnet demonstrating that malicious software could be used as a weapon against physical systems.
