July 25, 2009

A business owner throws away a scanner just before Dr. Dave can explain the fix, giving him a vivid example of how experience can reveal a much simpler answer than replacement. A grateful listener reports that the computer other “gurus” could not repair now works flawlessly, praise Dr. Dave calls humbling. Mobile operating systems dominate the news, but Dr. Dave repeatedly separates loyalty from evidence: he likes Palm and Google while still questioning their claims. When even the Mason family computer becomes one of the most difficult infections he has seen, he reduces the lesson to a human one: software cannot protect people from a harmful action they knowingly approve.
