July 4, 2009
On Independence Day 2009, Dr. Dave says that uncertainty can wake people up and make daily participation feel consequential. He pauses an email lesson to admit that experts sometimes forget how much beginners need to see the whole mental picture, then explains how a Seattle facility fire temporarily took DaveMason.com offline. A caller's tale of an auction bargain erased by an enormous shipping charge becomes a conversation about honest prices and reputation. Near the close, Dr. Dave reads John Adams's 1776 letter to Abigail and connects its language about adversity and virtue to personal responsibility in his own time.
