April 4, 2009

The April 4 show balances 2009 technology history with family memories and the practical standards Dr. Dave brought to callers. Conficker prompts the brothers to remember that Y2K was not imaginary simply because extensive preparation prevented the feared outcome, while Microsoft's strangest product names and Dr. Dave's cautious excitement about Windows 7 become comedy. A Three Amigos sounder brings back their sister's time around the Tucson film set, and Encarta's closing leads Dr. Dave to the blue-and-white World Book set his parents bought when he was five and the hours he spent on the floor searching its pages for sharks, dinosaurs and diseases. In the final caller exchange, Dr. Dave drops his preferred replacement product when he realizes it is not what was asked and turns to helping with the caller's existing eight-year email archive.
