December 6, 2008
The December 6 show preserves a revealing picture of the people, history and philosophy behind Computer Talk. Dr. Dave and Evil Steve credit Dr. Dave's son LT with keeping the pace and unseen details in order, while caller Dean thanks them for the archive and Dr. Dave says it has become the most popular part of DaveMason.com. Another returning listener, Larry, has found the national show again after losing it in a station change, and Dr. Dave adjusts his advice to the listener's actual starting point rather than giving a generic answer. Hard times, Dr. Dave says, can make people more grounded in what matters. That idea carries into a historically notable Microsoft interview about remote collaboration, cloud services and the need to preserve local control, and into Dr. Dave's memory of pressing Sprint to accept responsibility for helping ordinary customers with security. Near the end, he describes researching more than 700 historical books for a new website resource and deciding that useful professional knowledge should be shared carefully instead of protected as a secret.
