January 26, 2008
The January 26 show repeatedly favors careful judgment over technical bravado. When a caller has changed several BIOS settings without a record, Dr. Dave explains his own computer discipline: change one thing, check it and know how to back up a step. Another caller wants the quickest practical answer, which reminds the brothers of their mother ending Dr. Dave's explanations once they become too complicated. A confused ranch-telephone call leads to an even broader point: gather the basic facts before prescribing technology, and never buy a feature simply because advertising has made its name sound important. The closing slide-scanning call fits the memorial project itself: people underestimate preservation work, but anything worth doing will require effort somewhere, so accept the process, put on a smile and make it enjoyable. The show also preserves studio banter about Evil Steve being only the margarine of evil and a detailed Daytona interview connected to a family passion.
