September 22, 2007

Dr. Dave begins without the laptop he expected to bring and simply falls back on printed notes, magazines and preparation, turning a small studio mishap into an easy behind-the-scenes moment. A caller worried about hidden keyloggers receives a durable principle: take sensible precautions, keep them current and then do not live in constant fear. Later, Dr. Dave explains that personal security is also a responsibility to others because an unprotected computer can be conscripted into a criminal botnet without its owner knowing. The episode also preserves an unusually broad 2007 laser interview, pride in Dr. Dave's son LT's improving football team, a political argument about antitrust intervention and Dr. Dave's belief that personal computers should retain local autonomy rather than becoming terminals for remote services.
