July 1, 2006
On Independence Day weekend, Dr. Dave reflects on freedom and the American spirit before he and Evil Steve mark fifteen years since Computer Talk began locally and five years of national broadcasting. A Palm smartphone report leads them back to trunk mounted car phones, limousine handsets and the moment wireless calling still felt unbelievable, while a distracted driving study becomes a lesson in examining sample size, simulation and the gap between a headline and what the evidence can establish. After Dr. Dave criticizes Warren Buffett from a secondhand report, two listeners who watched the full interview call with additional context and Dr. Dave thanks them, withdraws the harsh reading and says he should have approached that report with more skepticism. The rest of the show covers electronic voting, Google Checkout, Opera, Vista, Office 2007, computer security and listener repairs without promoting routine products into clips.
