Working without an Internet connection or his usual stack of notes, Dr. Dave remembers the show’s paper-heavy early years and explains why a laptop is useful without replacing the tactile value of paper. A series of callers leads him to distinguish public Wi-Fi from an unsecured private network, revisit the years when his security warnings sounded paranoid and compare safe Internet use to wearing a seatbelt rather than refusing to drive. When the show’s streaming contractor fails, Dr. Dave says the show must own the failure, and later he openly accepts a listener’s correction about contacting an Internet provider after an account hijacking. The brothers also discuss the SBC and AT&T combination, IBM’s sale of its PC business to Lenovo, emerging wireless standards and their hope that Computer Talk might someday grow into a much longer program or Dr. Dave’s own station.
